Underway New River to Port Royal SC 7/18/2012

We got up around 6 am and at 8:45 started pulling the anchor up. New River was a nice stop but nothing special. We headed north, planning on stopping at one of several different anchorages that we had picked out around Beaufort, SC. We had a good travel day of about 30 miles and decided to stop in Port Royal. We were just across from Parris Island Marine Corps Training Depot in Battery Creek. As we rounded Parris Island we could not really see very much. But, boy, the next morning we could hear them!! I think every Marine on base was at the firing range with plenty of ammo!

Yep, we're close to a Marine base!

Underway IOH to New River anchorage 7/17/2012

Because of the afternoon thunderstorm warnings for the next week we decided to get underway early and anchor early. We planned our travel days to be about 30 miles (3.5 to 4 hours travel time).   Paula and I decided to take a side trip from IOH to downtown Savannah since we had never seen it from the water. Then we would head on to our planned anchorage. Below are several pictures of downtown. Paula did not take a picture of the cop who ran me down because I was going too fast. (I was just too involved in being a water tourist!)
We will really miss all of our friends in Savannah, but hope to stop in for a day or so as we head back south in October/November.

We dropped the anchor for the night in New River, west of Dufuskie Island. We jumped in for a quick swim and relaxed for the rest of the afternoon.

Isle of Hope, Savannah, Ga 5/17 to 7/17 2012

Isle of Hope Marina is one of our favorite stops along the waterway. It is a beautiful and  friendly place to spend some time. Plus there are some real craftsmen to do work on your boat, like Tim Quante and his crew. While here, we continued our interior upgrades by completing the rest of the headliner replacement. While doing that we also upgraded the lighting with new recessed LED lights, as well as insulating the space under the headliners. Tim also replaced the forward hatch in the V-birth, and re-waterproofed the flybridge bimini, painted the transom and replaced the boat name and port of call. That completes all outside painting!

The weekly potluck dinners at the marina, brunch and dinner with Diane aboard Kindred Spirit, and eating at Wet Willie's, Driftaway Cafe, Salt Water Grill, Jalepenos (and visiting Cold Stone Creamery a couple of times) have not helped our continual battle of the 'waste' line, but the food is always soooo good! We also enjoyed several visits from friends and family. Our daughter Tammy and her husband Gene stopped in on the way to Tennessee. Our good cruising friends Jack and Diane stopped and spent the night with us on their way to New York. Then our friends Paul and Laurie came and spent the weekend on another friend's boat and spent a day downtown with us. Our granddaughter Sammi, her Mom Christi, and her friend Shianne also stopped for a visit while passing through Savannah.

We ate out so much in the last two months that we are planning a lot of anchoring when we leave here just to help us avoid temptation!!
