Where we've been (by Paula)

OK, some history. Jim and Paula got married March 10, 2007. Jim had already been living aboard the Sea Eagle for several years. For me, boating and boat life was something new and completely different from anything I've ever known. Anyway, we left Sanford, FL, in October, 2008, and are just now finally setting up a blog! The Reader's Digest version so far:

Left Sanford, heading up the St. John's River to Jacksonville. Arrived in Jax just in time to see the Blue Angels show which was AWESOME! Well, it was awesome after we got escorted out of the restricted zone by some very serious water cops and got buzzed by a humongous navy plane! After we changed our underwear we dinked over the m/v No Dial Tone to have a drink with Charlie and Cheryl who we "met" on the Living Aboard forum. We spent several days anchored out in the river or on a mooring ball at the naval base. We did very well catching our first mooring!

Eventually we headed through downtown Jax and caught up with the ICW to start heading south. Our first stop was St. Augustine, America's oldest city. What an awesome month! We walked all over the city and saw much, much more than just the regular tourist areas. We ate lots of wonderful food but pretty much walked it off since we had no vehicle there for a while.

Then it was on to Daytona to spend the month of December at Aqua Marina. We had our truck there which was handy, but still did lots of walking just for exercise and fun. We were able to spend time with our good friends, Jim and Judy, who live in Daytona, and with Fred and Bonnie, our liveaboard buddies from our old marina in Sanford.

We headed south on the Sea Eagle at the end of 2008, with the idea of heading for the Keys or the islands. Little did we know this would be postponed for over a year! We stopped in Titusville because I'd been having trouble with my neck and left arm. To make a really long story as short as possible, we stayed in Titusville for fourteen months!! During that time we both went through surgeries, recoveries and physical rehabs. While that made for some rough time, overall we really loved the time we spent in Titusville and the wonderful friends we made at the Municipal Marina. We liked it so much we joined the local power squadron (boating club). We walked miles every week at Sandpoint Park and even have a "pet" squirrel there named Buffy, who climbs right up on us looking for peanuts. We were lucky enough to see six space shuttle launches. Two were at night and we saw them from less than five miles away. AWESOME!!!

The worst thing about Titusville was having to leave. We miss the marina staff and our dock neighbors so much! And because we're heading futher south, we no longer have a vehicle with us and can't get to Sanford to see Bob and Helen or Eric and Mary anytime we want to. We also won't see any of the kids for quite a while either. OK, enough, I'm gonna make myself cry again.
